There are thousands of kids in foster care in the US, many of whom can only dream of what living in a stable family home would be like. One boy in particular is keen on fulfilling his dream of having a family and has put his hopes out into the universe.

The Fun-Loving Boy Any Family Would Be Lucky To Have

Jerimiah is a 10-year-old boy from Oklahoma who went into custody of the Department of Human Services three years ago (1). Today, the polite and playful young boy is holding out hope that the right family will open up their home to him (1).

Jerimiah, who also goes by the nickname “The Germinatorâ€, loves swimming at the YMCA, playing video games, and hopes to try fishing and riding a horse one day (1). Currently, Jerimiah’s favorite pastime is reading. He uses reading as a way of fulfilling his desire to do fun activities and explained, “I like to read adventure storiesâ€ (1).

Jerimiah’s Hopes For The Future

Unfortunately, Jerimiah’s day-to-day life hasn’t been the easiest and he has had a particularly tough time in the group home he currently resides in (1). He revealed that, “I want to be adopted because I get beat up in my group home (1). His adoption worker is working to improve his current situation (1).

Jerimiah also wants to be adopted because he knows it is a time-sensitive matter. He explained his thought process, stating, “Cuz by the time I’m 18, I might not be adopted by then and I don’t want that to happen to me and I don’t want to be in a group home until I’m 18. (1).

Jerimiah imagines his future home as one with brothers, sisters, and pets (1). He explained, “There would be a nice woman. There would be a nice husband. There would be nice kids. There would be nice pets. I’ll do anything for them (1).

America’s Broken Foster Care System & What You Can Do To Help

Jerimiah isn’t alone in his quest to find a loving family and on any given day there are around 438,000 children in foster care in the US (2). In 2016, over 687,000 children spent time in foster care and more than 20,000 young adults aged out of the system without permanent families (2).

America’s child welfare system has some serious issues and many of the children in it, like Jerimiah, suffer serious harm (2). Siblings are separated, children bounce from one foster home to the next, and many are abused by the system that is meant to protect them (2).
