Let’s be honest. When stay-at-home orders were issued because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, I thought I’d have SO much time to do ALL the stuff. I’d be able to cook so many meals from scratch. I was going to organize every junk drawer and closet. I’d be able to run for hours, strength train, get my yoga on and spend so much time stretching and foam rolling. I was going to be in the best shape of my life because what else was I going to do?

But then reality hit. The days are flying by. My days are either filled with going to work (albeit in a different department and not my usual hours), home schooling my kids, and trying to figure out what this new normal is. Sure I’m cooking and baking more and I’m making running and workouts a priority for sanity’s sake. But am I working out as hard as I thought I would be? Some days, yes. Some days, no.

Since I’m now my kids P.E. teacher, I’ve got to get them moving too. We have been doing a LOT of walks and bike rides. Backyard bootcamps are another option to get a family workout in. It’s not only good for them to be moving but it’s good for kids to see their parents exercising. You are setting a good example of how physical activity is good for a healthy body and mind.

The next time it seems like every obstacle is preventing you from getting in your workout and your kids have excess energy to burn, crank up some music and get sweating with these 10 exercises.  Do each exercise for 30-60 seconds before moving to the next. Repeat the circuit 2-3 times. In under 30 minutes your workout will be done and hopefully, your kids will have burned some energy.

This workout can easily be moved inside if the weather isn’t cooperating. Coffee tables can easily be used for tricep dips and kitchen counters for incline push ups.

Here are even more backyard bootcamp options for the whole family to get everyone sweating.
