Okay. It’s not my fault I can’t wrap my mind around Beyoncé’s mind-blowing exclusions in her pre-Coachella diet. In her recently released Netflix documentary titled Homecoming: A film by Beyoncé, the 37-year-old global icon said she’d pushed herself to extreme limits to pull off an electrifying performance [1].

It’s been a hectic Coachella season for the mom of three as she rounded up on her preparations for the event, dropped the two-hour movie for her fans all over the world, and released an astonishing 40-track album from her performances. She featured her husband, the iconic Jay-Z and her 7-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy in some of the tracks.

More babies more stress

Beyoncé opened up about many issues to her fans, speaking about the struggles of having more kids at the peak of her career.

Just trying to figure out how to balance being the mother of a 6-year-old, of twins that need me, and giving myself creatively and physically, it was a lot to juggle,” she said.

She had Sir and Rumi, her adorable twins in 2017. Her pregnancy with them prevented her from performing at Coachella that year. She said she gained a lot of weight when she was carrying the babies, and it’s been taking a lot of time to shed them all. She suffered preeclampsia and had to undergo an emergency C-section.

“My body went through more than I knew it could. And I learned a very valuable lesson: I will never never push myself that far again,” she said.

She said the day she popped out her twins, she weighed 218 pounds. Getting back in shape for her stage performances was tremendously hard, but she’s done it and it even surpassed her wildest expectations.

Insane diet shocking all of Beyoncé nation

In her documentary, Beyoncé let her fans in on all the rigorous preparations that had to be made before she would get on the stage at Coachella. It wasn’t easy for her. She needed to get back in form after putting on the baby weight.

“In order for me to meet my goal, I’m limiting myself to no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, no alcohol,” Beyoncé said in the film. “And I’m hungry.”

“It’s my first time back home on the stage after giving birth. I’m creating my own homecoming and it’s hard,” she said. “There were days that I thought I’d never be the same, I’d never be the same physically, and my strength and endurance would never be the same.”

Is this Diet Right For You?

This diet is by no means tame. It removes far too many food groups which could put someone at risk of certain deficiencies long term. Short term use may be useful if someone is only looking to lose weight, however, even at this point, the results would only be temporary. Once cessation from the diet occurs and food groups begin to be reintroduced there will inevitably be some weight regained.

Dietician, Angela Lemond, from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, puts it this way, “We have to remember that food is energy for our body, and we should not be afraid to eat whole wholesome foods, and we should focus on the foods that we should eat versus ones we shouldn’t eat.”[2]

Why did Queen B adopt such a drastic diet? She most likely needed quick results before getting on stage. The diet, unfortunately, is by no means going to help anyone look like Beyonce either. To add further to the discussion Angela says, “We have to kind of put it objectively. Beyoncé has so many people helping her get Coachella-ready, and most likely the average person is going to have a harder time achieving what Beyoncé is doing… trying to figure this out all by themselves, balancing work and probably children. It’s not going to work.”[2]

So is this diet worth it? Most likely not. The risk of nutrient deficiencies is there, which could easily lead to negative health outcomes. There are just too many cons, and this, of course, is the downside to “yo-yo” dieting – it’s short term success with long term failure. Beyonce may be beautiful, but hers also goes far beyond the physical, just like yours.

Beyoncé fans on Twitter, whilst commending her endurance, are worried about her wellbeing.
