My week in workouts keeps rolling on! Just when I felt like we were getting into the swing of our new normal for now, my work schedule got changed. I only went in once last week. I was having trouble remembering what day it was before but that really threw me for a loop. I woke up multiple mornings thinking I had to go to work. I thought Friday was Saturday. And then I asked my husband how he was able to connect to the internet in the spare bedroom when we don’t have a phone jack in that room. As soon as I said it I was like – whoa! When did I get transported to 1996?!?!? Needless to say, we had a pretty big laugh about that! In my defense, we had watched a movie the night before that was set in the 90s and it talked about dial up internet. That must have still been on my mind when I woke up. Haha!
Here’s the rundown of my week in workouts…no dial up needed.
Monday
40 minute treadmill hike – 2.2 miles @ incline of 4-12%, 1268 ft. elev gain
strength training
Tuesday
6.25 mile trail run, 11:22 avg/pace, 444 ft elev gain
Evening yoga
It was no surprise that the trails were nothing but standing water and mud after getting dumped on with rain all day on Monday. It’s fruitless to try to avoid the swamp with Max. As I try to make my away around from the wettest parts, he barrels right through the muddiest, sloppiest parts.
Needless to say, he got a lovely hose down when we got home. He doesn’t mind at all. In fact, the hardest part is stopping him from wanting to drink non-stop from the house while I’m trying to clean him. Such a goof ball!
Wednesday
6.28 mile road run, 9:34 avg/pace, 871 ft elev gain
2 mile warm up run, 6 repeats of Garrison Hill, 2+ mile cool down
Garrison is kicking my butt lately. I just don’t feel that desire to push the ups so I mostly shuffle as best I can (which sometimes includes a power hike) for the 2+ minutes that it takes to cover the 0.2 miles up @ 14% grade. Looking back at the Strava data, I was only a few seconds off my PR but it just feels a lot harder right now. Like I said last week, I need to remind myself that there’s A LOT going on right now. My body is fighting so much mentally and physically.
strength training: 30 min Full Body Strength w/ Rebecca Kennedy on the Peloton app
Thursday
6 mile road run with Max, 9:03 avg/pace, 309 ft elev gain
The first two miles of this run were super easy pace. I think I was half asleep still. Even though I did this run before work, it still wasn’t at my usual pre-coronavirus pandemic time. In fact it was almost 2 hours later! I don’t know what my body is going to do when I have to start setting an alarm with a 4 in it again. Anything with a 6 seems so early now. Ha!
Friday
Lots of walks + Evening Yoga
Is anyone else walking SO much these days? I think we average at least 3 a day. It’s become the highlight of my kids days especially when we walk by friends houses. We always hope for sighting to enthusiastically say HELLO!
Saturday
20 minute pre-run full body strength training (push ups, planks, squats, lunges, step ups)
11.25 mile road run, 9:15 avg/pace, 1059 ft. elev gain
Imagine my shock when I opened the curtains Saturday to big fat snowflakes falling. As much as I love snow (IN THE WINTER!), I thought we were done with that?!?! Thankfully, it didn’t stick to the ground.
Another week of a long run on the roads searching for vert. I started off with 4.5 miles with Max, dropped him off at home and then finished my run. Truthfully, I wasn’t feeling it. The snow eventually turned to rain, which was fine even though I don’t like running in a cold rain, but my legs and attitude were blah. I just wasn’t feeling it today.
FYI – I only pull my buff up over my nose and mouth when I encounter someone who’s close by. I usually don’t have to do it because there’s ample room to move over or I can cross the street. Or I don’t see anyone like today. It’s one of those “just in case” precautions.
Sunday
6.3 mile trail run, 10:49 avg/pace, 322 ft elev gain
The sun was out and the trails were calling Max and I! Easy pace trot made for a leisurely stroll in the woods. The best part of the run was seeing a man finding sticks to place over the super muddy spots so people wouldn’t go off trail so much. I thanked him profusely (from a distance of course) for his efforts. It’s nice seeing so many people outside but the trails are definitely taking a beating from it. Just a reminder – carry in/carry out and stay on the trail!
