If you’re familiar with American reality television, then you are no stranger to Dog the Bounty Hunter. For those of you who are unfamiliar, it was a series that followed Duane “Dog� Chapman, his wife Beth, and the rest of his bounty hunting crew on various jobs.

A&E aired the series for eight seasons from August 2004 until June 2012. But in the years since the series ended, especially as of late, the Chapman family has been faced with many trials and tribulations.

The most widely publicised story has been Beth Chapman’s ongoing battle with throat cancer. In September 2017, oncologists diagnosed her with Stage 2 throat cancer. She acted quickly to get the tumor successfully removed and was deemed cancer-free. (1)

While Beth has handled her cancer battle with grace and poise, it has been an emotional rollercoaster – for her and her family.

“When you first hear the word ‘cancer,’ you immediately move to the word ‘death’ because that’s generally what comes next. Then the next word is ‘chemo’ and the next word after that is ‘radiation,’ which in most cases means death. It was very hard to accept those things, that this was happening and I was not even 50-years-old yet,� she said in an In Touch exclusive. (2)

Trying to See the Silver Lining

Duane, her husband, had trouble accepting reality. Anyone familiar with his positive and powerful persona may not have expected his reaction.

“He was shocked and worried and he’s not a guy who can take that kind of information lightly. He’s such a positive person and he really proclaims positive speech. He doesn’t profess negative, he doesn’t say things that are bad.

So that was very difficult for him to hear that, to be able to cope with it, because there was no coping with something you couldn’t understand or know about. He had to speak those words that that was going on for him to believe it and he just wouldn’t do it. He shut down quite a few times.� (2)

Beth Chapman’s Cancer Has Returned

On November 27, 2018, Beth was rushed to L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to remove a life-threatening blockage in her throat. She underwent a second procedure when doctors found a potentially cancerous growth in her lungs.

The surgeons have confirmed that Beth’s throat cancer has returned. However, they cannot give a definite prognosis and are exploring treatment plans, according to TMZ. (3)

In an exclusive interview with Radar, Duane said that “they cut a hole in her throat so she can breathe. She can still talk, so she’s doing the best she can.� (4)

At this point in time, Duane is not candy-coating his wife’s throat cancer battle. Beth is home and doing all she can do – await the test results and the doctors’ plan for treatment.

“Yes, I’m nervous about the test results tomorrow,� Duane told In Touch, “It’s like you kinda know what’s gonna happen, but you’re hoping and praying it’s not. (5)

Lyssa, his 31-year-old daughter, echoed those sentiments in an Instagram post on December 1, 2018 using a quote by American singer-songwriter Judith Hill: (6)

“I think you need to go through some stuff to really appreciate life and understand what it means to persevere, overcome, and have faith. I think those tough times make you a stronger person.�
