Spring finally feels like it has arrived here in New Hampshire. It sure did take long enough! After what seems like an endless winter, we are ready for sunshine, warm temps and spending as much time as possible outside. It’s time to ditch the layers! We are lucky enough to have the ocean within 20 minutes from our house and the mountains not much farther away. That’s one of the reasons why we like it here so much!
After a morning filled with kid sports, we didn’t have a ton of time so we hit the beach for a dose of Vitamin Sea (and some Vitamin D). The beach is great no matter what the season, but the quiet off seasons are my favorites. There’s always treasures to be found. We got there during low tide – perfect for the tide pools to see what little creatures we could find and discovering rocks that are usually deep under water.
And also finding a single, dried up lobster claw.
We celebrated Earth Day over the weekend but really, every day is earth day. We only have one earth and it needs to be protected.
Last Friday, we met up with some friends for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival. Ron and I went last year and enjoyed the short films. It gave me serious wanderlust but it’s eye opening on how we need to do everything we can to protect the earth. This year, we brought the kids in hopes that it will further fuel their love of nature and conservation. It’s scary to think that they may not be able to enjoy the wonder of the outdoors because of development over taking open and public land.
I want them to be able to enjoy the woods, rivers, lakes and oceans for years to come. Just like I hope their kids and grandkids will be able to. Of course, the kids have been taught the importance of recycling and not littering. But what else is there? What about being a conscious consumer.
You guys know that I love prAna. I’ve shared many of my favorite pieces over the years – HERE’S the most recent. Now Ron is a fan.
prAna recently sent him a couple of pieces from their spring line. His long sleeve hood and Furrow pant are both soft, comfortable and casual without looking sloppy. In fact, the Furrow pant could be worn dressy or casual.
Each item is made with either organic cotton, hemp and/or recycled polyester. You may be wondering – what’s the difference between traditional cotton and organic cotton? Conventionally grown cotton consumes approximately 25% of the insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides used in the world. Organic cotton production replenishes and maintains soil fertility, reduces the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and builds biologically diverse agriculture.
prAna is Sanskrit for breath, life and vitality of the spirit. The company uses this as its name to lift their aspirations and guide their actions towards becoming a more socially mindful and environmentally sustainable organization.
I not only love the form and function of prAna clothing, but also how well made and sustainably conscious it is. They take great strides to ensure they are sourcing their clothes from sustainably conscious material and energy sources and that working conditions are good for all of their employees.
