Last week’s workouts were so fun. Lots of sleeping in thanks to the holiday week, running a Turkey Trot and hanging out with friends. If it’s not fun, why do it? Lol. Thanks Ben & Jerry’s for that nugget of wisdom.
Monday
40 minutes Stepmill with 30 sec sprints and 90 sec recovery x 10
strength training:
DB bench press
DB pull overs
Eccentric pull ups
Banded pull ups
Single leg deadlift to bench step up
TRX pistol squats
Half kneeling rope reach and pull
Renegade rows
Tuesday
Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi Yoga
4.8 miles, 9:18 avg pace, 243 ft elev gain
I was so excited for my first run of the year in fresh, fluffy snow. I put my trail shoes on and enjoyed the winter wonderland. With the temp right around 30 degrees, it was perfection. If only everyday of winter running could be like this!
Wednesday
I made the mistake of leaving my car outside overnight. When I went to leave for the gym in the morning, I found that my car was completely iced over. Rather than chop at the ice and waste gym time, I opted for a basement workout.
30 minutes recumbent bike
strength training:
Bosu Burpess
KB windmill
KB swings
Single leg lunge matrix with KB press
Side plank to single leg balance
Bosu jump squats
Thursday
3.1 miles, 7:46 avg pace, 140 ft elev gain
Originally, the plan was to run the Turkey Trot as a family like we’ve done for the past 2 years. However, the temp was 8 degrees with a wind chill of -10 on Thursday morning. The thought of doing a run/walk with the kids was painful. The thought of running a fast 5k was also painful but at least it would be over with sooner than the run/walk. Let me just preface this with the fact that I haven’t run a 5k in 4 years. And the funny thing is that I actually kind of liked 5ks back then. Not anymore.
Maybe it’s because my legs were frozen stumps for the first 1/4 mile? Whatever the case, I did it. It wasn’t my fastest but it’s what I could eek out with sore legs from Wednesday’s workout and not much speed work in the past year. And I got 3rd in my AG because the sane people stayed home and stayed warm.
Of course, Kyle and I finished the race together synchronized because that’s what running buddies do. Haha!
Friday
8.7 miles, 8:51 avg pace, 371 ft elev gain
Along with my first run in fresh snow of the season this week, I also got my first lashicles (frozen eyelashes) of the season. Kyle and I met up for another balmy single digit morning with a wind that went through every layer I had on. My face was numb and I swear I didn’t warm up all day even though the temps finally did.
Saturday
Rest day
Sunday
9 miles, 8:58 avg pace, 418 ft elev gain
I will always jump at the chance to run with friends even if that means having to drive almost 30 minutes to meet up in the rain. Holly took the runner girl gang on a great hilly route that had a mix of pavement and dirt roads. However, the dirt roads were completely iced over which made for some treacherous conditions. We all survived but Sarah barely survived Jess trying to take her out during our group runfie at the end. Lol!
How was your week in workouts?
Linking up with Hoho and Wendy for the weekly workout wrap up.
