Last week's workouts | happyfitmama.comLast week’s workouts made me feel like the process is working. It was the first Monday since Loon Mountain Race that I felt really good. I wasn’t overly sore and I didn’t have a puffy ankle. I felt fresh and ready for another week of training.

There’s truth in trusting the process!

Monday

40 minutes Stepmill Intervals

60 minutes Strength training

Most Monday’s I can’t fathom 40 minutes on the Stepmill. My legs are usually fried from my long run or I’m tired from the weekend activities.

Not today! I was feeling good and tackled that beast with all my heart.

Tuesday

52 minute easy run

20 minutes yoga

Evening SUP

People…it’s the end of August and it’s 47 degrees.  That’s just not right.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed not being drenched in sweat before I even started running.  But let’s be honest, I sweat buckets no matter what the temp is. I’m more than happy to hold off on long sleeves till at least November.

Last week's workouts | happyfitmama.comIn other news…we finally got Stand Up Paddle Boards! I think my new favorite activity is taking the boards out after a long day at work. Another reason why summer can hang on for just a bit longer…I need more time on the water.

Wednesday

30 minutes Stepmill Intervals

60 minutes strength training

Another day, another day of climbing faux mountains and lifting heavy things.

Thursday

47 minute run

Morning Flow @ Bending Bodhi Yoga

Hold up, wait a minute.

It was the return of the humidity! I couldn’t believe how soupy it was when I took off to meet Kyle.  It had rained all night so it felt extra ahem…moist. Welcome back, summer!

With the summer winding down, it’s also the return of headlamp season.  There’s just something about running in the dark before the rest of the world awakens. Kind of mixed emotions on this because it also means summer is winding down.

Friday

Rest day!

Saturday

22 mile tail run, 4 hrs 45 min, 3,625 ft elev gain

Evening SUP

You guys. 22 miles on the trails takes a long freakin’ time. I was super nervous going into this run. I haven’t run this far in almost 5 years and I’ve never run this far on trails. Hell, I’ve never even hiked 22 miles in one day! And to top it off, I was running on trails that I had mostly never been on.

Thankfully, my friend, Jen, was meeting me for the first 13 miles.  Our friend, Kevin, had mapped out two separate routes for us. FYI – the Gaia GPS app is amazing for routes and making sure you are going the right way.  The first route was for Jen and I, the second was a 10 miler for my solo venture.

The route with Jen went by fast. Plenty of runnable hills up carriage roads. I only tripped once (tore up my knee again from last week) and we only got turned around once.  It was brutal to head back to the cars to refuel my supplies while Jen got to take her shoes off and head home.  I was so jealous!

Last week's workouts | happyfitmama.comAfter a quick restock and a good luck hug from Jen, I was off again. I started off on Kevin’s route but soon realized that it was not very runnable with single track, big rocks, roots and a steep climb that had me power hiking for 3 miles. (In his defense, he had never run that route either so had no idea what I was getting into).

Three miles up, I came to a cross trail and made the decision to go rogue. The signage for trails was pretty good (with distances listed), I had the Gaia app running and I had another trail map so I felt like I could pull something together on my own that was more runnable.

I stayed on top of my nutrition and hydration like a boss. FYI – cold pizza is AMAZING fuel!  I kept the pace super easy and conservative. Things were good up until the last 4 miles when my feet and ankles started feeling tired and achy. My hips were feeling sluggish. I was looking forward to hills so I could power hike rather than run. Downhills felt especially rough.

You have no idea how excited I was to feel the vibration on my wrist when I hit 22 freakin’ miles. That AND I had it perfectly timed to finish at my car. How’s that for rogue planning?!?

Sunday

41 minutes running, 4.2 miles

Afternoon SUP

I was quite shocked how good I felt when I woke up Sunday morning. I thought for sure I’d hobbling. But other than a little leg fatigue, I felt good.

With Max dictating the run, there was plenty of stops and sniffs. Thankfully, he wasn’t in too much of a hurry today. We both ran happy!

Later in the day, we hit the lake and soaked up the sunshine on the SUP’s. Summer can’t leave just yet!
