Last week’s workouts had me feeling a little less blah about running. I think I was just in a funk. I’ve got another race on my schedule for early August and the possibility of two more in late August/September.
Monday
40 minutes Stepmill
Strength training:
DB bench press
Renegade row
Single leg DL w/ DB shoulder press
Goblet squat
Bench steps ups
Cable row and squat
Cable tricep overhead extension
Eccentric pull ups
Pull up shrugs
TRX mountain climbers
FYI – if you follow me on Instagram and you live in New Hampshire, you will want to watch my feed on Monday. I’ll be giving away TWO year long memberships for Planet Fitness!
Tuesday
7 mile run with 1:00 min pick ups at every mile, 8:34 avg pace, 404 ft elev gain
It was a hand numbing 47 degrees when I set out for this run. 4-7 and it’s the end of June. Wtf? If I would have worn gloves everything would have been a-ok. I had a tank and shorts on and was drenched with sweat but my hands were popsicles. No fun!
Morning Yoga Flow @ Bending Bodhi
Wednesday
4.6 mile trail run, 11:42 avg/pace, 300 ft elev gain
I met up with Kyle and two new friends, Kristen and Sara, for some easy trail miles. I love mornings that start out like this especially when I can show my friends how awesome the trails are.
Thursday
40 minutes stepmill (10 minutes warm up, 10 x 30 sec sprints @ level 20 w/ 1:00 recovery btw + alternating 1:00 side steps left and right and double steps)
Strength training:
Bench press
Unilateral single leg deadlift + DB shoulder press
DB renegade rows
Weighted hip thrusters
KB bench steps
Rapid single leg step ups
Reverse grip barbell row
Eccentric pull ups
Pull up shrugs
Bear crawls
Yoga flow @ Bending Bodhi
Soooooo much sweat from the Stepmill!
Friday
REST DAY!
Saturday
6 mile mountain run, 14:24 avg/pace, 2,233 elev gain
The main purpose of Saturday’s run was to climb. And climb I did. The Gunstock Mountain maintenance is only 1.5 miles long but is an average 15.6% elevation (and max is 25% I believe?) for the duration. I trained on it two years ago for Mount Washington and was able to run most of it at that time. This time around I did a lot more power hiking which in the end still had me huffing and puffing. I need to dig in my training journal from two years ago to compare the times. I had planned on doing the climb twice but axed that idea after coming down the road. It was a painfully slow process because I was afraid of rolling an ankle like I did two years ago the week before Mount Washington. It’s full of just the right size rocks for ankle twisting. I don’t need that in my life so I opted for a run up the cell tower trail for more elevation.
Next weekend is Loon Mountain race so we’ll see how things go.
Sunday
5.5 mile run, 9:01 avg/pace, 252 ft elev gain
I had one thought during this run – Thank God I’m not training for a long distance race right now! The humidity was ridiculous at 7:30 a.m. I was going to run for 7 but called it quits at 5.5. That was enough!
I might be taking the rest of the week off from blogging to enjoy the holiday week with my family. To all of my U.S. friends, have a safe and happy 4th of July.
