We will be the first ones to say that the American fast food company founded on May 15, 1940, McDonald’s, has done little to help people on their health journeys. It simply may not be their goal, but with their tens of billions of dollars, consumers should be able to hold them to higher standards. This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has come under fire for questionable cleanliness either…

Now, a student by the name of Isabella Ritchie is after spotting something disgusting in a Cambridge, England McDonald’s restaurant on 9 Rose Crescent. After ordering her meal, Ritchie went to get herself some ketchup from the condiment dispenser. [1]

After a second glance, much to her surprise, she saw live maggots wriggling inside the clear plastic tube. You would think this would also disgust and enrage the McDonald’s staff who were working that day but, shockingly, that wasn’t the case apparently.

“I told one member of staff and she literally just ignored me and carried on serving customers, Ritchie tweeted. [2] “We literally had to stop someone from eating it because they didn’t realize.

Naturally, she took a video recording on her phone and posted it to Twitter, notifying the McDonald’s Twitter account while she was at it.

McDonald’s Response to Ritchie’s Maggot Video

Almost a full 24 hours after she posted the video, a spokesperson from McDonald’s UK Twitter account finally responded.

“Hi Isabella, I’m very sorry to see this happened. So we can investigate, can please send us a DM and let me know which restaurant this was and the time of your visit? Our team will then be able to look into this for you immediately. [2]

Concerned about the health and safety for McDonald’s customers and other locations, RT reached out to the fast food franchise for some answers regarding why maggots were there in the first place.

“Our condiment area and dispensers should be checked for cleanliness every day and we are looking into what happened here, said the McDonald’s spokesperson. [3] “As a result of this matter, the restaurant has been visited by the Environmental Health Officer for Cambridge City Centre, who has carried out and completed a full inspection of the premises and equipment. We can confirm that they are satisfied with the controls and procedures in place at the Cambridge restaurant.
