Tomorrow, my babies turn 8!

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been a mother runner for 8 years.  At times it doesn’t seem that long ago that I was huffing and puffing, pushing my two cuties around in our double BOB stroller. Other times, it seems like eons ago.  How did they get so big so quickly?

Three years ago, I posted this cute questionnaire about my kids’ thoughts on having a mother runner.  I thought it would be fun to revisit it to see what they think about me as a runner at 8 years old compared to when they were 5. Plus, it gives me a chance to look at old pictures and reminisce.   HERE’S their previous answers.

What does mom eat before a run?

Avery: Veggies

Lukas: Cheerios or Daddy Flakes

First of all, let me clarify what Daddy Flakes are.  It’s a type of flake cereal that Ron likes.  There’s also Daddy Biscuits, in case you were wondering. Second of all, they are both wrong.  Clearly, Avery thinks I poop non stop on my runs. Because veggies before a run = poo.

How far does mom run everyday?

Avery: 5 miles

Lukas: 25 miles

Lukas thinks I’m in Ultra training.

What was mom’s favorite race?

Avery: Definitely NOT the one where you got hurt (Boston).  Any Turkey Trot that we’ve run together is your favorite.

Lukas: Boston!

I guess that race left a lasting impression on them, too!

Avery is partially right.  I really do love our family tradition of running on Turkey Trot for Thanksgiving but I don’t think it’s my favorite.

Why do you think your mom runs?

Avery: Exercise

Lukas: You want to be strong and healthy to be powerful to play football and do gymnastics.

Ok.  First my chiropractor told me all the great football players run in sand so I should run in sand more and then my son thinks I run because I want to play football.  Is this a sign that I missed my calling?

What injuries has mom had from running?

Avery: You hurt your leg and got crutches.

Lukas: You tripped and broke your leg.

Close…I didn’t break anything and I didn’t trip.

But they both mentioned my boot. I guess when you wrap your boot in a plastic bag from Target, it’s highly likely EVERYONE will remember that injury.

Do you like going to mom’s races?

Avery: Yes!  I get to play around and do fun stuff.

Lukas: No!  It’s boring because there’s nothing to do.

Hmmm. I think they’ve been to all the same races.

Have you learned anything from having a mom who runs?

Avery: No

Lukas: Nope!

I think I need to share my life lessons learned from running with them.

Does having a mom who runs make you want to run?

Avery: Not really.

Lukas: Never.

Wow.  I never knew my running was so uninspiring.

What’s your least favorite thing about having a mom who runs?

Avery: Nothing

Lukas: She runs slow.

I better pick up the pace according to Coach Lukas.

Do you think you’ll run when you are your mom’s age? And how old do you think your mom is?

Avery: Maybe.  40 years old.

Lukas: No.  I’m going to play football. 40 years old.

I got a maybe out of one so I call that a win!
