My week in workouts } happyfitmama.com

My week in workouts were almost the complete opposite of last week.

Last week – All but one of my runs were on the trails playing in the fresh snow with temps in the teens.

This week – All of my runs were on the road (except Wednesday on the treadmill) either in the rain or significantly warmer than the week before. I wore shorts on two of those runs!

No wonder I’m so confused about what to wear on my runs every single day.

Monday

30 minutes Elliptical intervals

Strength training:

Lunge matrix

Bench step ups

SL box jumps (low height)

Bench SL sit to stand

Split stance KB DL

Bench press

Incline bench press

Lat pull down

Eccentric pull ups

TRX bicep curls/tricep ext

I woke up Monday morning feeling a little sore and fatigued from my snowy runs over the weekend in addition to basically doing hill repeats on Sunday afternoon sledding. My hips and glutes were t-i-r-e-d. So I made the decision to do a non-impact workout on the elliptical. I wasn’t coasting along but I wasn’t pushing it either.

Tuesday

6 mile road run with Max

It was eerily warm for December (50+ degrees) and pouring rain all day Monday. I really wanted to hit up the trails for a run but the rain and warm temps made the snow on the ground turn to deep slush puddles with a mixture of ice. Even with spikes, it would have been a ridiculous mess that I didn’t want to deal with. So I opted for roads with Max. We both finished the run with super muddy legs. But then again, mud makes us happy so it wasn’t a bad thing.

Wednesday

20 minutes Stepmill Intervals (I did a workout similar to THIS)

20 minutes Treadmill hill climb – 5 minutes @ 4%, increasing incline 1% every minute for 5 minutes, 2 minutes recovery @ 2%, repeat increasing incline for 7 minutes, 1 minute recovery @ 2%

Strength training

Cable circuit upper body: 10 reps each, 2 rounds

Chest press

Double arm row with squat

High bicep curl

Tricep ext

Standing Anti-rotation chop

Lower body circuit: 10 reps each except as noted

Barbell squat (20 reps w/ lighter weight)

Lateral lunge w/ SA DB press

Barbell squat (15 reps increasing wt)

Reverse lunge w/ balance and DB curl

Barbell squat (12 reps increasing wt)

Skaters (1-2 mins)

Barbell squat (10 reps increasing wt)

Split squat w/ DB low row

Barbell squat (8 reps increasing wt)

SL DB deadlift

Barbell squat (20 reps light weight)

Plank matrix

Thursday

6.2 road miles with Kyle (last 1+ were with Max)

Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi

For some reason, it felt like it had been forever since I did an early morning, dark run. In reality, it was only last week. Time moves so quickly that last week seems like months ago. So weird.

It was a real feel of 8 degrees for our run. Quite a big difference compared to Tuesday’s 50 degree run in shorts but didn’t feel all that bad. Maybe it was because we were too busy catching up to pay attention to the cold.

Side note: I bought another pair of CRZ Yoga tights from Amazon. They really are Lululemon dupes for a fraction of the price! (see pic at the top of this post)

In other news, I finally got my butt back to the yoga studio. It had only been since Halloween that I’d been to a class. Let me tell you, my hips reminded me of that. Yowza!  I have never felt that unflexible in my life. Reminder to self – don’t skimp on yoga!

Friday

Rest day

Saturday

4.6 mile road run with Max

The weird weather continues!  I woke up Saturday morning to the sound of rain pelting the windows. When I looked outside, I could see a river of water flowing down the street. Since I absolutely LOVE running in the rain, I took my sweet time getting ready. It’s one thing to be out running and then to have it start raining. It’s a whole new level when you take off running in a torrential downpour. Thankfully, it was around 50 degrees so it wasn’t as bad. I even wore shorts! As soon as Max saw me with my running clothes on, he became a crazy man. There was no way I was leaving the house without him. Good thing we both don’t melt when we get wet because we were completely soaked after 2 minutes.

I must have looked like a crazy person because I got so many stares by motorists as Max and I splashed through the puddles. There was no avoiding them. The sidewalks and roads were rivers. I must admit, I felt a little crazy. But also a little bad ass. ?

Sunday

6.5 mile road run with Kyle

It was a lazy Sunday morning. I knew I was going to run but I was in zero rush to do it. I got a little more motivated when Kyle texted to see if I wanted to run. She was feeling the same way.

The weather was wacky yet again. No rain but high winds with temps in the 40s and a real feel of the low 30s. I second guessed everything I wore. I should learn to listen to my second guesses because I was too warm. I had to even take off my lightweight gloves, which never happens.

The highlight of the run was obviously finding money. It may have only been $1 but I always feel like it’s at least $1000 when that happens. It’s the little things, right? ?

A part of me feels like I should be running at least 10 or more miles for a long run. But then the other part of me is happy with running lower mileage right now. Things will start ramping up soon enough. Not entirely sure of but there might be a 50k in May on my race schedule. Stay tuned!
