Since the COVID-19 outbreak has people avoiding each other and maintaining social distances to stay safe, going to the salon or barbershop to get a haircut is out of the question. In many places around the world now, it’s a crime to step out of your home without the proper documentation (for your safety and that of others).

So, don’t be surprised when you go online and see videos of people who have recorded themselves losing their minds from boredom. Sitting at home 24 hours a day and 7 days a week is pure torture, even if you’re working from home. However, it’s better to go crazy indoors than to step outside and contract a lethal disease, and possibly pass it onto other people.

Cabin fever is setting in strongly as some people have taken to giving themselves haircuts at home, and as you’ll expect, the results are utterly disastrous.

It looks easy when the stylist does it, right? Wait until you pick up a pair of scissors yourself, or have another non-pro do it for you.

In a list compiled by The Tab, get ready to see some of the most epic haircut fails of the century [1].

Poor Lara was going for the perfect ball fringe effect. She ended up chipping off a bit too much hair in all the wrong places, and now she’s ended up with a horrifying mushroom style. Contrary to what most people would think about her cut, Lara hadn’t been dry-shaping her fringes. She’d moistened her hair before she began cutting, but it turns out, it’s more about skill than the moisture in the hair.

Well, she’s top of the list because hers is the most ‘manageable’ on here.

It’s unclear if 20-year-old Josh did this to himself or he let a 2-year-old handle the clipper. He must have been trying to go for a rounded punk style, but he ended up cutting off too much hair in the front, and now he looks like a 70-year-old man with a 20-year-old face.

20-year-old Matt is literally a human microphone with his catastrophic haircut. He initially intended to give himself a cool ‘skin fade’ haircut, but he ended up fading too much skin and now, from the back, he looks every bit like a large mic with ears. Amazing.

He almost got it right. Just almost. 22-year-old Tommy could have been showing off a really cool V-slope fade if the person who did his cut had actually been looking at his head while cutting it.  There’s just something about it that screams “slightly stylish”, but on closer inspection, it’s a major blunder.

With their retro-style cuts, Ollie, 22, and companion in the photo remind me of North American baby condors stills sprouting feathers.

Drum rolls, please. And the award for the “Most Disastrous Haircut of the Season” goes to… Harry!

There are no words to describe the injustice 23-year-old Harry did to his blond hair, so he’ll have to speak for himself.

“I did myself a bowl cut back when I had bleach blonde hair and, as shabby as it looked, I kind of styled it out. This time, however, things are different, and it looks like I have a literal lid.”

Well, when the social distancing protocols are removed and people can return to their normal lives, I hope no one will ever underestimate the importance of stylists and barbers ever again.
