Losing weight can be incredibly challenging, especially if you’re someone who’s trying to balance a million things on your plate. But it isn’t as impossible as you may think. The proof is in the pudding, and today that pudding is Sarah Grant.
Sarah Grant is a busy mom of two who achieved her weight loss goals using the Renaissance Periodization (RP) diet and training program (1). Sarah was nearing 40 when she started this journey and, like many of us, had been struggling with her weight after trying a plethora of unsuccessful diets (1). Sarah felt she was at the prime of her life in every other area besides her health and fitness (1). Sounds familiar, right?
Starting Fresh: Sarah’s Weight Loss Motivation
Sarah explained her motivation for losing the weight; “I didn’t want to spend more years of my life feeling less energetic and vibrant and healthy than I once had. (1). She also wanted to set a good example for her kids, and she did just that (1).
So what is Renaissance Periodization? Renaissance Periodization is a scientifically based diet tailored to each individual by staff at the company, most of whom are PHD researchers and college professors (2). Sarah’s plan was broken up into three phases, which were each 12 weeks long, with some breaks in between to give her time to maintain her weight (1). That’s right, she didn’t have to diet 24/7 to lose the weight!
Slow & Steady
It took Sarah about one year to lose 50 pounds, with her starting weight at 167 pounds (1). Sarah implemented simple, do-able habits like morning workouts (1/2 an hour of cardio a couple of times a week, but she focused on lifting weights as often as she could) and eating more lean proteins, veggies, and whole grains to achieve her weight loss goals (1). She even eats two lunches on most days (1)!
Her simple lunch ideas include:
- “My favorite lunches are always some form of lean meat, like chicken breast or tuna/branzino/salmon with rainbow quinoa or rice, asparagus or a leafy green veg, and some healthy fats.”
- “Peanut butter on whole wheat bread or with a banana is my go-to side snack with lunch.”
When asked about any tips she had for other people who are trying to lose weight, Sarah said, “Be patient. The tendency to get discouraged by slow progress and then give up in frustration is a big barrier to success. (1). Remember, you didn’t get to the weight you’re at now overnight and it’s unrealistic to expect that you’ll lose all the weight immediately. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Tips for Losing Weight
Weight loss is a very personal journey and you don’t have to follow the exact same diet plan Sarah did to be successful. Hold yourself accountable, find what works for you, and be patient. If you put your mind to it, you really can accomplish anything!
