Stained glass has been used for thousands of years to beautify buildings and as a form of story-telling art. (1) This woman has built herself a stained glass cabin where she can relax, work, and feel inspired.
The Backyard Stained Glass Cabin
Neile Cooper is an artist who creates stained glass art and jewelry. She wanted to have a place to do her work where she could feel both relaxed and inspired. In her backyard, she built herself a beautiful stained glass cabin that is covered with her artwork from the base of the walls all the way to the top of the roof. (2)
Stain Glass Cabin
With the walls and roof made entirely of her own stained glass, she named her little cabin Glass Cabin. The stained glass cabin is 8-feet by 12-feet inside, however, when the natural light pours in from all angles it’s as bright and as airy-feeling as a larger house. (2)
All of the artwork on the walls and ceiling are inspired by nature. The lower panels are full of depictions of grasses, flowers, snails, mushrooms, and other ground-level nature. The ceiling, however, is covered in owls, beautiful birds, and other flying creatures. Sitting inside it truly gives the sense of being outside at the same time. (2)
Eco-Friendly Dream
This dream project of Cooper’s is not just a stunning piece of functional artwork, but it is also sustainable. It is made almost completely from reused materials. (2) Some examples are (2):
- Rafter beams from fallen trees
- Lumber from her neighbor’s storm-damaged porch
- Old, reused window frames
No matter the season or weather, the stained glass cabin (or any cabin) is a beautiful place to be. If you are interested in seeing more of Cooper’s work, you can visit her Etsy page, Instagram, and Facebook.
