Celebrity weight loss has always been a topic of interest for many people. There are a ton of fabulous celebrity transformations that drop our jaws! From the snap-back-body of Black Chyna to the yoga-toned abs of Kate Hudson, there’s so many dieting and fitness options. Some might seem nuts (and could be bad for you) like the lemonade detox or the cabbage soup diet, whereas others are a little less dramatic, like eating more alkaline.

Here are some of the most noteworthy celebrity weight loss diets and regimens, ranging from extreme to oh-that’s-not-too-bad. This list really puts those celebrity transformations into perspective.

KPOP

Kpop (or Korean Pop) is a fast growing soft-commodity that has taken the internet by storm. It’s trendy, and it’s filled with impossibly thin stars that pump out hits like they’re going out of style. There are an array of strange and intense diets out of Kpop, many of them are dangerous.

The Nine Muses tried the paper cup diet right before they debuted. This diet involves filling three paper cups (think tiny Dixie cups from the water cooler) with what you want to eat for that meal. One with vegetables or meat, one with rice, and one with fruit. It is supposed to be a method of portion control but can be incredibly restricting for anyone trying it. Plus, when you stop, even though your stomach has shrunk a little, you’ll binge. It’s a crash diet.

There’s also the one meal a day diet, which is incredibly popular for many Kpop stars. It is exactly what it sounds like. They just eat one meal a day. It has been used by members of Sistar, Brown Eyed Girls, and Secret. The main effect this will have on your weight loss is that it’s hard for a regular human to pound more than 1000 calories of a healthy meal down. It’s calorie restriction. That will lead to you being groggy for most of the day, and out of energy until you eat.  It can also lead to malnutrition if followed for long enough, and slow your metabolism way down. Plus, it’s basically a binge cycle diet.

Both of these popular Kpop diets are crash diets that do not yield long-term results. They are popular, but will lead to you putting some weight back on. A better alternative would be to steal the idea of the diet, like practicing portion control, or avoiding snacks and sticking to regular meal times (3 times a day at least!!).

Snooki

Snooki lost weight so quickly; the transformation had some internet conspiracy theorists thinking that her thinner body had to be an Illuminati clone of some sort. She has given credit to the Cookie diet for her first weight drop, and calorie restriction and a heavily regimented fitness plan for her post-baby snap back. The cookie diet involves eating 5-6 ninety calorie cookies for breakfast and lunch, then a healthy light dinner. It’s meant to make it easier to restrict calories, but doesn’t meet nutritional guidelines and can leave the dieter hungry, and rolling on a sugar high.

This diet is also a crash diet that focuses on calorie restriction. Eating a piece of fruit, or a small salad six times a day would yield better results (and be way cheaper).

Gwyneth Paltrow And The Rest of The Goop-Celebrities

Gwyneth Paltrow is the high-priestess warrior queen of lifestyle trends that are fascinating to read, but probably not good for your health. From moon powder smoothies to a jade egg that you store in ‘nature’s pocket’, Gwyneth Paltrow is the forefront of lifestyle changes for health, and she’s sold her ultimate in dieting to other celebrities, like Lena Dunham, as well. With her ageless face and perfect skin, who could deny that it might be exactly what Gwyneth Paltrow’s body needs.

Gwyneth’s diet isn’t about restricting yourself from what you want to eat; it’s more about laying off of certain foods most of the time. Things like red meat, processed foods, corn, nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, etc.), and grains (omg, bread!) should be avoided. Her diet is a fairly healthy mix of largely unprocessed foods and depends fairly heavily on fruits and vegetables. It could be too much fish for people who are sensitive, it doesn’t offer a lot of carbs (but could be supplemented with fruit), and the Goop powders can be quite expensive. It’s not a bad diet, but can be an expensive one.

Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz

Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz have said that their toned abs come from surfing and swimming. Hitting the waves is what keeps them thin, plus they get to have fun while doing it. If you live by a coastline and want to get started surfing it doesn’t have to be a chore. For the almost forty percent of Americans who live directly on the coastline, renting a surfboard (or getting a thrift store board and wetsuit) makes it easy to go out and enjoy the waves. Surfing is hard to learn, so don’t get disheartened when you keep flipping into the waves.

If you’re not one of the lucky ones who live by the coast, jumping in the pool is another great way to stay fit. Most surfers end up spending a fair amount of time swimming, and you can still do some of the same fitness in a chlorine pond. Dipping into the pool and swimming is a great, low-impact way to work out your whole body and get those fantastic abs. Other than chlorine-green hair, there is almost no risk in choosing this form of exercise.

Christie Brinkley and the rest of the ageless crew

This celebrity weight loss diet – the alkali diet – has kept her and many other older stars looking bombastic as they age.

Christie Brinkley, Kate Hudson, and Jennifer Aniston have all tried this diet which involves eating foods that metabolize to be alkaline, and avoiding those which metabolize acidic. It can be hard to tell what you can/can’t eat. Lemon juice and Apple Cider Vinegar metabolize alkaline, whereas chickpeas, walnuts, and cranberries can be acid forming. While this diet can help you look younger (especially if you can stay strong and keep processed sugar out of your diet), its effects aren’t proven. If you can maintain a healthy diet while restricting certain foods, this might be a fun diet to try.

Lady Gaga

A cornerstone of many diets is cutting out alcohol. It adds calories and doesn’t fill your stomach. Lady Gaga smashes past those diet rules and makes her own with a ‘drunk diet’. She likes to drink whisky while she’s working and never misses a workout. Drinking all the time isn’t good for you. It affects your liver, is dehydrating, and can affect brain function, plus at 80 proof, her favorite whisky (Jameson) isn’t an easy swallow on an empty stomach. While her drinking is impressive considering her tiny frame and intensive workout regime, for many people, this sort of behavior can fringe on drunkorexia or can bring out someone’s propensity for heavy drinking, which isn’t always the same as alcoholism. If you haven’t guessed it, this celebrity weight loss diet is a terrible idea.

There’s a ton of ways to lose weight, stay young, and live your life. If you want to try some of the methods celebrities do to drop pounds, consider how their methods will work for you. Starvation diets like the Kpop stars and drinking/ exercising to extreme may not pan out for you. But enjoying exercise, or trying to eat differently might help. Find what works for you, and remember, this is what works for them. It may not work for you.
